In late January, Siyanie -
ambient duo from Yaroslavl and Moscow, has released their second full-length
album Homo Multidimensional, related to which we interviewed Sergey Ilchuk,
creator of the project and author of its visual component. The conversation
touched topics such as multidimensional creativity, human functioning and the
human body, as well as philosophical issues of society and the individual, and
of course Sergey spoke in detail about the history of the project, about the
music itself, its purpose and the process of creating.

can you say about it, what were the expectations (if any) and what does that
mean at this point in the history of mankind in your opinion?

A conditional
point of transformation is associated with certain earthly-cosmic cycles, and
again, a conditional point of the beginning of a new period in the life of mankind
and planet Earth. Our Home World :) For some, perhaps nothing is changed, not even
for me; generally, the more noticeable
changes are not tied to specific dates. With the expansion of our
multidimensional nature, humanity is entering a new cycle of development, with each
person included in the new cycle. Naturally, in my life, this process is
connected with active practice "on this topic." All together, we are
changing and changing all around, both qualitatively and quantitatively; in
fact this is said in the previous question.

Undoubtedly, the process of evolution is spiral, not just linear - there is always a period of saturation and the subsequent qualitative rather than quantitative changes. Do you think that it will change in the life of humanity at this time? Indeed, such revolutions occurred repeatedly, think at least of the invention of sound recording or of the Internet.

Qualitative and quantitative factors are in unity. Spiral and linear are similarly intertwined with one another, and follow each other in the inflowing. We were being more developed and educated, gave nuggets of knowledge for most of these "discoveries." Now the main thing is the birth of Homo Sapiens in us, and everything else will follow succinctly. Ecology, technology, education, life in all facets... People are the foundation of our society, and without our evolution, the development of cordiality, development of the body apparatus, setting the mind and ego and the broader qualities of morality, responsibility, and setting up a healthy interaction with the planet through intelligence and consciousness - everything else becomes meaningless. One has to turn to his multidimensional nature, to his connections to the earth and heaven, his tasks, place in the Universe and the world, turn to the Spirit, the Creator, God (for those who would not adhere to this term, could call it as you like - to turn to the Essence ) and learn to live in co-creation.

It sounds very optimistic, I hope that this is the future of this planet! Then there’s the natural question concerning the setup of human functioning: the ancient Greeks believed in the harmony of the man who kept the balance in three parts of his body - the abdomen, chest and head, which corresponded to the virtues of moderation, courage and intelligence. Only with all three virtues, a person could be engaged in education of children, creativity and philosophy. Has anything changed since then, are there any new levels in a human being?

In this sense, all the traditional knowledge systems that can all be united under the concept of Yoga, answer these questions. Listed as centers that correspond to the three energy centers / Tan Tien, is the chakra system - centers, sub-centers, all channels, and based on them - "the body." All of the "mental functions" are based on this system, the existing energy can be realized only when I feel them "in my gut", which is why the practice of working with the energy in the body, whatever it may be, has the value and similarity of machine settings. All these feelings, emotions such as love, inspiration, connection to the Earth and the Cosmos, material goods - everything is so established in a person's life, this is how the device has developed, so we just accept them and emit certain frequencies and vibration (everything is a wave of some frequency). By the way, we can say that because of the difference of experience and development, often under the same word to convey the feeling / experience, we can think of different things - because everyone is only based on what feels right. Hence the entire history of disputes and quarrels ... If one believes only the truth of what he thinks is such - that there is so much truths as men, and yet each state is unstable, so multiply it by every moment! :)
A very broad topic, that I have a deeply practical interest in. And I will bring a metaphor: imagine a spaceship body with multiple gateways and transitions, facilities, inputs and outputs (the chakra system - it is also a transition system and communication channel). Accordingly, all the knowledge can be perceived as instructions for setting up, training, or using as a motion map, the path and the device to experience all things as direct experience. And in the process of development, we go further, revealing the new and re-using the old facilities provided by our perfect space suit for the spirit - the body.

It appears that this point of transition that always feels like death-Thanatos for completed level of synthesis, transformation begins on the new plan as an Eros – that leads evolution of consciousness on the scope of knowledge, has yet to be synthesized. Can we have some idea about new cycle of civilization that was started now? Does it mean that there are new complexities within the process of becoming a man?

Through transition from one to another, as transformation is a continuous process! :) It’s about mental dynamics. It’s the first sentence of the body, yet capacious. Another reason for the existence of the concept of "the end of the world", as people have seen the "end of some of the old" yet unfortunately, for the new, the unknown they do not always construct optimistic images... We all have some idea of a new cycle of civilization, and now, more than ever, it depends on each man expectations what will actually unfold, what scenario will be implemented. New is always new; yet unknown depends on us, will it be joy or the possibility of conscious update or complexities.
Difficulties may arise when we are too attached to the old patterns of the world, maps of reality, and the new is already knocking at the door. So as deep as it will penetrate our lives, depends on the degree of openness of our being and the ability to build a new map. And then from this map to a broader map, and this is the way. Within the overall process of evolution some periods of involution is possible, if you look in terms of the vector direction - it becomes evident that the collapse of the former structures are necessary for the synthesis of the new and better. It gradually gives us the opportunity to build a further scenario, a bookmarks, that will continue to unfold, according to the depth of consciousness and the power of intention

Tell me about the name of the new album! And about the music - at first glance it seemed to me as a kind of an action plan. Not the “future music”, but music about future.

The album is named Homo Multidimensional, Multivariate Man... Multidimensional experience is more and more present in my life, and the music naturally reflects this stream of consciousness. Multidimensional world, multidimensional nature of our being, multidimensional music woven from a variety of iridescent layers, textures, lines, attention processes, weaving rhythms and structure codes, intertwining and increasingly dividing the inner-outer. The album is dynamic, even rhythmic, and could be called a voyage, a position-in-space experience, the sequence of passage which we have studied specifically. Sign-symbol rows from each track in the verbal form are on the card, included with the published disc. This cycle of transformation is an act of awareness of our multidimensional nature, the initiation of Homo Multidimensional. As for the music, it is instrumental, woven from a variety of sources of sound, followed by fine-tuning in our studios, hence the additional stylistic breadth. It certainly is ambient, as the literal translation of the word, and in general the essence of music. Music for me is always a space of experience, and in this case, it runs certain processes in man, those that I passed through, and was able to capture. This is the initiation of the process of unpacking and attunement with the new matrix of the human being. Siyanie (Radiance) is multidimensional.

This question has been on my mind for a long time: your work – it’s not only music, but an integral object of visual, textual, and audio components. If you could add taste and smell, what would be the ingredients?

Indeed, all indicated are the facets of imprinted experiences. Imagine you are on a high hill, and your lived experience can be reflected through sound, photography / collage; you can write a poem, you can smell, you can realize certain sensations in the body, and all of the above at the same time – is one, which is why each release composed of such facets. In the case of tastes and smells, I would use maximum amount of natural odors in the sequence and interlacement. Here, the images of infinite are connected: luminous space, other worlds, terrestrial meadows and forests, non-verbal states, the embodied experience of life, professional activity and interactions with the native people, voices and images of many incarnations of dance, experiences with forms of life and the energy in the body, memory images and dreams, experiences of contact with the ethereal forms of life and dreams, experiences and elements of prayer, feelings of heart expansion, and many other personal and transpersonal experiences... What a great amount of research and experience is sealed within this album about Life! We can say that it reflects my / our life in the dynamics of creative ways. All perceived odors and tastes, all the colors, sounds and shapes - the anthem of diversity and greatness of the One.

The project was launched officially at the beginning of 2012; this is the second full-length album since, and the third disc with my participation - from afar, of course. But I would say that the history of the project began in about the year 2003, with our first experiments in music. A good part of the readers are probably familiar with the once existed, consistently manifested and cared for projects, with a much more active concert activity: Pugna & Kerpg, Zhivu & Voe_Ero, Vetvei & Vresnit... These are three of the projects - also three labels, organized under their implementation - discs, booklets, artwork, stencils... However, the third concept has acquired a more professional look - both CD editions and quality polygraphy. Now all projects are closed and circulation no longer applies; briefly, they envisioned a consistently expanded view of the world, changing comprehension of ourselves, consistent action, and I gradually realized the discrepancy between the concepts of projects and their "position in life," the concept of the mask that has fallen off the face... These were special times in life, reflected in art forms; the study of different facets, the design matrix of experience and connections, the displaying of developments. Each project and its label was like a new life, gone through the death-transformation cycle before. Naturally, all this is intertwined with life's circumstances and in fact, if we consider the dynamics of what was happening - creativity has given a tremendous opportunity and growth rate, the ability to obtain and study new deep states, out of direct experience. Music, poetry, drawings were and still remain for me the greatest tool, the practice of imprinting experience and expansion of consciousness. And through practice, awareness increases.
And in fact we can say that the entire life, in all its facets is creative way, because not only sound-image can be understood as creativity. In this sense, it is the image of or the experience itself which may affect consciousness in any art forms. The main thing in all of this lies within the constant study, that, at first, is very bright and somewhat contradictory. Fortunately, by tracing the dynamics, we can clearly see the intensity of evolution - in shape and, most importantly, as actual imprinted experience states, from act to act. The whole process is one big act of expansion and integration, cooperation, purification and unstipulation, birth, an act of Creation Itself.

I also have a question purely on the technical side, regarding the implementation of Siyanie’s music at concerts. What tools do you use – devices, instruments, light, environment?

During the existence of this project we had very few concerts. Since the summer we can say that the project consists of two people - me and Dmitry Shilov (Neznamo); we’ve known each other for several years, and through a lot of talking, live interaction and home recordings, with the first meeting we found a lot in common, in our life experiences. This provided a foundation for further cooperation and has led to our collaborative work. Siyanie in this sense is a project, through which we are investigating our deep connection. It is difficult to identify who is responsible for what, a more subtle, yet very inter-dependent distribution is present. Concerts are now almost entirely live, with little tabs in the dynamics and small pieces, where a stream comes alive, which is then processed in our studios. After it matures, parts are being offered to the listener. The core of the new material consists of recordings from the night performances under the stars, the and one home-live session, which then were massively fine-tuned in the studio; some of the material is written entirely in the studio. Shining Of Unity was born completely "at home." In terms of tools: now it is the guitar, voice, woodwinds, various electronics and synthesizers, field recordings, samples of different nature, all processed by variety of analog and digital devices. Light and atmosphere are very important elements of ongoing acts - each element is important. You can also add video part. The subtle, comfortable atmosphere is essential, facilitating contemplation and immersion, scrutiny and disclosure. A melange of dynamic and static... candles, lamps, color and warm light, incense, psychedelia of united image...

I felt a deep connection between the graphic component of Siyanie and the music, not only in form but also in its substance. How is such beauty created? Is it done at the same time with the music (so to say, in real time) or as an imprinting of the finished album, its outer borders, covers, in which it goes out into the world?

You pointed out right, the graphic design is a really important facet of my artistic activity. Graphics are face of an image, as well as the sound, so I pay special attention to the graphical component of publications and design in general - the cover should better match the content of creation. Speaking on stage album creation and refinement - recording is done in parallel, the image of the sound, graphics and text appear gradually, so there is an aging form, main themes are polishing, dynamics appears. So world sees result as something integral.
You can also add that I designed a few albums for friends’ projects - Maeror Tri, Corvuz, Esche, partly Kshatriy, and have designed traditional culture and modern art magazine Krasota, published by CBD. And each time it was a subtle interaction with the space through the album’s cover art, images embodied in concordance with the musical experience.
Over the last year and a half, I think I was more involved with graphics. I made 15 large paintings of Siyanie Art, some of them are already in the network, the rest will be available soon. I became even more aware of the world, to see fine lines, a more subtle feel of the energy, feeling the unity of the manifested and unmanifested form as perceived by all, became more real, rich and deep. Paintings became brighter, shinier, multidimensional, carry deep, concrete images, and are initiating psychedelia even more. Naturally, it is also a reflection of my vision of the world, mankind, of all things, the devices only. Measuring practice provides clarification of perception, and, most importantly - on blinders and concepts of the mind, setting up the body-machine to feel better.
All that is coming out "from under the pen" right now, addresses the luminosity of being, inner-essence, dance of energies, depth of relationships and perspectives, our multidimensional nature, the theater of consciousness in unity of past-present-future, the beauty of the moment of life... just life as it is.
